How many times have you been away from a power source and noticed your cell battery is almost dead? For me, this happens more often than I like, so when I heard of a jacket that can recharge your device on the go I was immediately interested.
Introducing the Ecotech Solar Jacket by Zenga Sport. This stylish sport coat not only is made in part from recycled materials, but it also has solar collector panels sewn into the fabric; making you a mobile power station. The solar panels do detach though, so planning on going out at night won't make you look weird and also makes washing the coat do-able. The coat also houses a interesting feature for those in colder climates, a heating device inside the jacket helps to keep you toasty and warm even when the temperature drops.
So with some of the positives mentioned, it's time to list the negatives. The Ecotech Solar Jacket can take up to 5 hours to charge the hidden battery pack (When in direct sunlight)... this is a lengthy wait time for a full charge. Also to be listed on the negative side of things is the price... this bad boy is currently listed at $750 which is well outside the typical prices for a cell charger.
While I think this is a great step forward in the wearable tech department, I still think a lot can be done to improve the product. Hopefully in the near future we'll see the price drop a bit and then I will be happy to purchase one of my own.
