If you though teleportation was something reserved for Star Trek, or science fiction, you're right..... at least you used to be. While quantum teleportation has been around since 1997 it has never been achieved at a great distance... most teleporatations were of a distance of meters... not miles.
Then in 2010 a Chinese team of physicists announced they had successfully teleported photons 16kms, an impressive feat to be sure, but hardly close to what we saw on Star Trek. Now 2 years later Juan Yin & the same team from the University of Science & Technology of China (located in Shanghai) report they have successfully teleported entangled photons over 97 kilometers.
All in all the team reports that using a guiding 1.4 Watt laser, they were able to telport more than 1100 photons, over 97kms, within a 4 hour period. While this may not be the teleportation from movies / tv, it is getting closer... for the time being scientists feel this teleportation will be of interest in quantum communications and quantum cryptography.
