Transmitting From iPad To Smart Phone Using High Frequency Light

So just as QR codes are becoming common place amongst society, the researchers at MIT's Media Lab are shaking things up again. With their new project codenamed 'NewsFlash' researchers are able to share information / web pages, using high frequency red and green lights to transmit data to a built in camera on another device such as a cell phone or tablet.
While in principal this works similar to QR codes, the actual green and red flashing happens so fast that it is undetectable to the naked eye. The demonstration by the Media Lab uses a iPad to display a static news page, and on it is the flashing colored bands/bars at the top of the page, consuming just a few pixels on the screen. A NewsFlash app on the receiving device then interprets the flashes of light and then displays the webpage as instructed.

NewsFlash is still in the development phase, and in the near future we could see this if not replace but at least contend with QR codes.
