By Craig Garcia - I've seen a lot of interesting and intriguing concept cars on the internet, most of them are 'drool-worthy' and leave me wishing for boat loads of money to purchase one for myself. But of all the concept cars I've seen this has to be the best of the best.
This is Hover Car, it is a concept vehicle that came to light during a competition hosted by Volkswagen, the "People's Car Project" (PCP). The company wanted to get input from the public regarding what the current consumer not only needs, but what they are wanting to see in upcoming vehicles. In just over 1 year the Volkswagen website saw more than 33 million visitors and more than 119'000 unique design submissions and technological ideas.
Of those 119'000 design ideas, Volkswagen chose 3 to pursue and even developped concept cars to show at the Beijing Auto Show. Although the other 2 are interesting ideas... honestly I just don't care for them, so I will instead share what information I was able to gather about this Hover Car.
Volkswagen describes this vehicle as an all electric, two seat city car which floats above the ground and traverses electromagnetic roadways. Simon Loasby (Head of Design At VW China) says "The creative ideas from the ‘People's Car Project' give us a valuable
insight into the wishes of Chinese drivers, The trend is towards safe cars
that can easily navigate overcrowded roads and have a personal,
emotional and exciting design."
The video below, while in Chinese, does provide some insight into the design. Here's hoping that we'll be able to see these vehicles in the near future and not just on the Asian markets, but the world over.
